Activities have available float, You want to maintain the original project end date, and Resource usage needs to be more uniform.

Key Difference:

Leveling may extend the project; smoothing does not change the critical path.

Critical Chain Method

The Critical Chain Method (CCM) is a resource-based approach that:

Identifies the critical chain considering resource dependencies, Adds buffers at the project and feeding points, Monitors buffer consumption rather than individual activities, and Focuses on resource availability as the primary constraint.
